In Bali, Breitling launched last week its Breitling Superocean Heritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition replica watch with the support of Kelly Slater, Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore, the athletes of the Surfer Squad. In collaboration with the NGO Ocean Conservancy, the watchmaker organized a waste collection on the beach for the launch of this chronograph limited to 1,000 pieces.
When we think of Breitling, we automatically think of Navitimer. Obviously, it is "the" most legendary watch, not only from Breitling, but it is also one of the absolute icons of the watch market. And for good reason. However, you should know that the SuperOcean model, the “diver” from Breitling, is also one of the brand's bestsellers.
It is therefore this model that has just been put in the spotlight in Bali as part of the launch of a limited series of one thousand copies produced in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy association which, as its name suggests, aims to protect the world's seas. A very promising and recurring theme in recent times among luxury watchmakers, from Oris to Breguet, including Blancpain and a few others.
Seen from Europe, Bali takes on the appearance of a postcard. But once there, the idyllic white beach is often littered with debris and plastics of all kinds. This pollution is as much local (inhabitants and tourists) as it is outside the Indonesian island ...
Indeed, Bali is located at the intersection of the Pacific Ocean currents that flow into the Indian Ocean; this geographical location therefore leads, in addition to the local pollution which is real, pollution from Indonesia, but also from the Philippines or Malaysia.
In this context, at the end of 2018, Wayan Koster, governor of Bali, announced that he wanted (just like the European Union did some time ago) to act and therefore reduce plastic pollution by 70% in 2019. on the Balinese coast. A measure that places the Indonesian island at the forefront of countries fighting for the protection of the planet. Sanctions (including fines) will be taken for offenders from next June ...
In this gloomy context, Breitling unveiled on May 10, 2019, a limited edition model to celebrate its partnership with Ocean Conservancy. The launch took place alongside a waste collection initiative, open to 100 Breitling guests and hundreds of volunteers from across the island and region. This cleaning job freed the beach from hundreds of garbage and pieces of plastic.
The case
This Superocean Héritage Ocean Conservancy Limited Edition is characterized by a case back engraved with the Ocean Conservancy logo and the limited edition mention "1 OF 1000" (which prevents the brand from numbering them individually).
The movement
Powered by the automatic Breitling Caliber 13 (COSC; 48-hour power reserve), this day-date chronograph is topped by a unidirectional rotating bezel resistant to scratches and shocks, embellished with a luminescent point at 12 o'clock.
The dial
This point, like the hour and minute hands, is adorned with Superluminova which diffuses a blue light instead of the standard green. This color variation matches the design of the watch, whose silver-colored dial is enhanced with a "Superocean" inscription in blue. Other touches of blue highlight the whole, such as the central seconds hand and tone-on-tone sub-dials with blue or nickel-plated details.
This "C" tricompax chronograph has a 44 mm steel case waterproof to 200 meters (pushers not screwed). It comes with two NATO straps made from ECONYL yarn, a material obtained from nylon residue, one of the sources of which is the fishing nets that float in the oceans (not very luxurious but very trendy).
The watch is presented on a blue striped NATO satin strap, completed by a plain blue NATO satin strap. The presentation box is also made from a 100% recycled material, again, it is not very luxurious but it is in tune with the times ... Part of the profits generated by the sales of this model will be donated to Ocean Conservancy to support its fight against pollution of the world's oceans.
